It did. In fact I tried many different renderers just not to get my computer crashing. But I found out recently there is a technique in which it is possible to render really complex scene in which the scene could be procedurally populated during render time (it's called Delayed Render in Houdini's Mantra), so I might see to that.
A single processor might not be enough buy my PC did work hard :)
I push and make my PC works really hard :) I think this one is around 30+ hours. But the longest one took around 68+ hours (the later version) just for a single frame.
This was rendered either in Maya (Renderman) or Houdini. Houdini's own Mantra renderer is the most stable and gives high resolution details, but took ages on a single PC!
