I would die for a chandelier like that :)
The photo gives kind of an eery mood, like the building it was in is pleasantly haunted or something..I don't know..I like it :)

carly Thanks! So would I!
It is a little eery, this was taken at Palácio Nacional de Sintra. The first references of the palace date back to the 10th century and has been mostly inhabited by various kings and queens since then...I suppose some of them probably died there too. I think nobody has lived there since Portugal became a republic in 1910. Most of the rooms are big, tall ceilings, and quite bare. The whole place is cold and strange...

avenue53 wow, i bet the rest of the palace was beautiful as well. How did you get in?? or is it a museum now?

carly It's not really a museum as such, more like a monument that's open to the public...also a world heritage UNESCO site. They have restored most of it I guess and have a lot of the original furniture and things in there still. Probably the most impressive is the coat-of-arms room, a huge domed woodwork sort of ceiling featuring the royal coat of arms and surrounded by coats of arms of another 70 something noble families. The walls of the same room are all covered with azulejos (blue tiles). It's fantastic. Oh how I love Portugal! :)
