Traditional to Digital

I know you guys are getting sick of me :)

Just curious how I'd go about making a digital file of traditional work. Do I take a picture of it with correct lighting? Scan it with a high quality scanner?

I just know those 2 methods.

I´ve heard that if you put the subject in front of you monitor and say 3 times " buliquieme é uma vila do caraças". When you recite those words you should have the bigger foot finger on the nose and must use pink underwear, it works as well without loss of quality.......could be a rumor thought. :)

ok, serious now.
scanning is always best than a photo, but for big pieces, like a painting, or anything else that don´t fit the scanner, a shot is the only way, I think.
photoshop adjustment is almost always required if you (like me) don´t have professional equipment to take good photography from paintings or other media you may want to turn to digital.

Ok I will tell you how i attempted to take photos

this is relaly important, because this photo of your painting goes everywhere, stays with you along time.. and if the painting gets sold or lost you only have that digital file.. so I suggest do as much as you can to get this photo good!

to all artists on canvas and large format work!!

- shoot only in natural light ( this is common sense, unless your rich enough to have 20 thousand dollar lighting setup)
- keep it flat, preferably in white ground or plain surface
- get a stool or ladder
- take the shot with the highest quality possible directly from the middle allowing space around it for cropping

other way is to do it upright with a tripod.. and take lots of copies.
