(not sure if this is the proper category but...)
Anyone know of any templates/tools/programs designed or geared specifically for artists inventory management type deal?
I have prints on hand and will be producing more i want to be organized and keep track of sales so far and so forth -- as i have them all numbered and priced accordingly and i want to be able to follow up with this years to come so i don't lose sight of how much money i am putting into it vs. how much i am getting out of it.
Right now i am using a
Lame
Inventory Management MS Access Template i found on microsoft's website and its doing the trick but it seems so limited not only aesthetically with its presentation but also with its reports... and at the moment (who knows this might change later) i do not have the time to create my own, i just want to get this crap organized.
Wanted to know if i am missing out on something awesome out there. I do not want anything web based.. i just want a local template for microsoft access (i only have version 2003) or possibly a
light weight
program...
Is something like this available to me only in a dream, or do they actually exist? I am getting nowhere by googling...

The only advice I can give you is for organization of artwork (digital) you might want to just use Bridge or try out Googles Picasa. As for keeping track of sales, your best bet is quicken or any other professional finane program. I'm using Personal Finance Lite at the moment, but that is for personal.

Hmm. Thanks Sean.
I don't need to organize my digital files, thats all fine... i just want like.. an inventory system for the hard prints i have on hand. So i can open it up and it tell me what i have on hand of each type... instantly, as well as how much i have sold.. with ratio reports and ability to create purchase orders.
I guess what i am using is good.. but like i said kind of lame:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010184581033.aspx?pid=CT101426031033
I was hoping since this was the first i had found that there would be something better out there that is similar with better reports & .. i dunno more up to date and more eye pleasing.
Is quicken like that? Or is it just for sales? I have never used it...

I know in access you can create your own reports and edit fields and crap but yeah the time to do all of that is just non existent...

Ah, I misread what you wrote... that and I just woke up.
Only have used Quicken a handful of times, as I really have no full need for it. But Quicken 2008 "Home & Business" is described as (from Amazon):
* Perfect for home business owners and self-employed professionals
* Track personal and business expenses in one place and see how your business is doing
* Capture all your possible business deductions and see your tax deduction status throughout the year
* Connect to your bank, credit card, 401(k)s, or brokerage accounts with a single password
* Make online banking even better--bring all your personal and business online accounts together in one place
Sounds like what you are looking for in the financial department.
As for inventory, best bet is really to just Google "Inventory management software review" or hit up Download.com and see what they have.

Usually, you use FileMaker (Pro), completely personalizeable, for stuff like that. At least in all the galleries I know the inventory is done with that.
Especially in the beginning it's a pain in the ass to configue/create a layout that provides everything you need/want, but then it's by far the best system I have seen so far.

Sean, Thanks for the info on Quicken.. now that i read more (i knew it sounded fimiliar) I realize, i lied, i actually did play with Quicken once back in 05 or 06... i had it on a different computer i don't have anymore, and i linked it up just for my personal finances because i was always screwing up the bank accts ;b... i remember it feeling really heavy though... i need more Ram. Its always something isn't it?
I did google... i just never trust anything so i like to know from peoples experience what they have used.
Thanks also, Sebastian.. i will look into FileMaker (Pro) as well, hopefully i can connect with it.
I can't thank you guys enough for your input with this!
You are awesome.
