Artist collaboration/battle area

This is something that has been done in a few closed art communities before and I have seen some really brilliant stuff come out of it.
Basically, it would be an area where artists are provided with the proper grounds/tools/spectator interaction methods to either work on collaborative pieces OR do art/photography/writing duels.
Normally, these are handled in a forum format, which kind of sucks. It sucks because it's sort of hard to follow and it takes the emphasis away from the art and places is more on the feedback.
I think it would be REALLY GREAT if we could have a main section set up with a gallery/forum hybrid system built especially for the collabs/duels.
This not only builds great relationships between artists, but it pushes people out of their comfort zone and pushes them to be creative in new ways. ALSO, it creates a really nice buzz and a lot of attention.
PLUS, I have to kick Oliver's candy ass in a duel - and this would be a perfect place to do that ;)

Well you're all bursting with words and ideas now aren't you! It's nice to see some new comments and perspective! :]
There are a lot of fun things that are planned for future that are yet to be divulged! I like this one too. Personally I haven't had much experience in first hand action or viewing of such a thing but it sounds like a nice way to learn and grow...and also interact as a community.
Thanks for sharing your ideas! :]
Let's see what others have to say about this one...?

I think something like this really takes the interaction to the next level and it becomes less about the individual and more about the collaborative effort. Which is a nice element to incorporate in any creative environment I think :)

Collaboration is always good to see. I can appreciate it because in my experience, it's rare i happen to find another artist is conceptualizing the same thing as me, at the same time as me, or even in the same way as me, or a way that could be combined. It's always been a let down.
It's hard enough to collaborate with myself ;b
So to see someone succeed is a nice feeling. That to me though is not dueling or trying to "come out on top"
Anything related with Dueling would need to be hugely balanced and if not more over run by the Actual Growth Process. Art, to me, loses a huge part when its evident that the driving force is to win, shine, out-do-the-last, get a buzz, etc. etc. i have never been a fan for "duel art" but i am a fan of expanding/experimenting and having many avenue's in which to do so. That only leads into the unknown which is what i am interested in.
Something like this would open the door to more opportunity, so long as executed well and growth remains the driving force and not so much "the buzz". The Buzz is limited and short term.
It's nice to have the sun shining on your face, but if the sun is in your eyes... just how much can you see?

This is something we do want to implement. Like so many features we want to put into action. Its a matter of time and resources. We will work as quickly as we want to bring all of this to reality though as we want to see them just as much as everyone else here!

Same here.
It does not work for me at all.
I've done some in the past and except a very rare occasion it's really hard for me to do.
But other people might find it enjoyable so It's up to them.

A few years ago Luis was a part of a project for Australian InFront. What they did, was that everyone submitted a design element, could be a photo, a drawing...paint blob whatever, then everyone makes their own artwork using only the elements given. The results were amazing and it's really interesting to see how everyone interprets the same things differently. Personally I'd really love to see something like this happen again...

Yeah that way of working might be less frustrating for ultra-dictators like Meredith and I :P
I think it's a great idea.

I would really like to put something like that in place here on Creativestem and give artists a real reason to participate!

lol, Exactly. At the same time that i like to dictate my own artwork i feel imposing upon someone to tell them what to do. Which is why i had a hard time and actually couldn't tell the one person i did collab a photoshoot with when she was fucking everything up, that i knew would only cause a domino-fuck-up effect.
Carly, i think that would be a really awesome experience, working on your own with set objects. It would also help sharpen skills in design when a client gives you imagery that you have to use, and cannot substitute.

That's exactly why the area can work on the same system for very different purposes.
We can have:
- duels/battles for artists that don't play well together when it comes to making joint collab pieces.
- collabs for those that do play well together (or at least would like to try)
- group projects where more than two people can contribute to a piece or series
- there can be art, photography or writing duels based on a variety of themes which the dueling artists agree on at the beginning which keeps things interesting
And then we can have an ARCHIVE section where all the good stuff goes once the collab/duel/group project is done.
Glad to hear this is something you're looking to incorporate though :)

We don't have any plans to put prose on Creativestem as it stands. Perhaps in the future we may consider it but we're dealing with the visual world for now.

Ok, scratch that one from the list - you still have a lot of fun options ;)

To Everyone:
1. Elaborate on what your definition of "dueling/battling" is and how you perceive this concept.
2. Does creating art for the reward of winning truly contribute to individual growth and in what ways? And if so.. with the reward of "winning" being such a shallow or rather primitive motive, how does it Fuel You?
Enlighten me. I am in need of Enlightenment today :]
