yesterday went to some old sites I used to visit a century ago, mainly skinz.org and deskmood, were I started to upload some stuff at first.

and this question came to me. Is CS going to have some kind of moderation or anyone who comes can upload what ever he/she wants regardless the quality of his stuff. Yes, I know "quality" is a dangerous term and breeds many controversy. but is always a point to be discussed .

How is going to be?

Booth ways goods and bads. is just a question of defining the site philosophy.

There are plans...plans!! I am not sure if Keith and Luis want to discuss what these are yet...so I will leave it at that. But yes, something... :)

We have some sort of system in place, but it is a very touchy subject that can make or break a community It's not as simple as deleting everything that is not above par, the site will progress very quickly, we have a long list of features to implement and system upgrades coming..

I will not get into full details about moderation yet because it IS a touchy subject. we are still in the process of discussing it, testing it, designing it and developing it.

but all thoughts on the matter are more then welcome.

We just have to let people know and they have to understand that this IS a "finished art" site and not a playground for ideas or photo blog site like other sites.

its not about judging on quality of artwork but photos of your birthday party are not art its not about about how many uploads you have

scanned scraps of ideas are not something to feature

basically..anything that is submitted the user has to know it must have potential to be featured or reviewed as an artwork.

its exactly the "birthday photos" that I was thinking about, take deviantart as an example of that. If you want to se some "good stuff", you have to browse 50 pages or so to find 2/3 interesting works. Having a contact/friend feature helps to track the best artists for a wile, then you get lost again. at the same time, new talented people come and you never find them in the middle of the crowd,.....

I�m not a moderation adept but I remember at skinz, moderation made me try harder to get a piece showing, was a challenge at the time and made me improve my skills...and was exciting to achieve it..heh, kids stuff:)....but true.

and yeah, its a ungrateful task to judge and can result in some negative points.

I'm glad that I just discovered that this site doesn't have any kind of 'Fav'-System to rate artworks. BUT I also think that it should be kind of moderated, although I can't think of a way to judge art that is above "total crappy birtday-photo... maybe you should implement a way the users can sort out the crap? Like a button, that, if it get's pushed by five different users, deletes the work or something like that. But that, on the other hand, could be abused.

It would be hoped that if we start good practice so to speak, it will be followed. I would like to think that considering the current level of artworks on the site that users can somewhat moderate their own artworks. Ah in a perfect world...!

On the topic of moderation.. the site is in its early stages, we only released the site with the core feature being the artwork gallery and user pages with a small number of testers and users signing up by chunks

we have never done a site this big before and are also learning across the way. There is a list of features that we are planning to implement.

however all your suggestions and advice regarding moderation is really welcome and needed so if there are some clever revolutionary ideas that could possibly please most people now IS the time to hear it =]

@Luisaraujo: If you add a fav feature, let everyone join and leave the gallery "unmoderated", you might as well rename this to dA V2.0... I'm quite shure that most people that are on board so far would rather like to get some "advanced" art site that isn't about popularity and doesn't contain users that haven't learned any basics yet... just my 2 cents.
