Found this site the other day. Might relate to some of us... I know it does to me with this client and I hate it because I have no idea how much I`m making but I`m hoping it has triple digits (###, not #### - I'm not that assholish). :)

What is “spec?”
“Spec” has become the short form for any work done on a speculative basis. In other words, any requested work for which a fair and reasonable fee has not been agreed upon, preferably in writing.
What’s so wrong with that?
In a nutshell, spec requires the designer to invest time and resources with no guarantee of payment.
Taken from the site.

Okay..........understood. But I think it's part of a personal risk that some people are willing to do. If you are one of those people then why is it the clients fault? They have to be taught by example........for as long as they can find designers to do stuff without paying for it first then why wouldn't they?
Personally I've never done it. Bad idea.

Yeah. I like knowing what I`m going to be paid first. This way it`s not up to the client and then you get some figure you would have never imagined.

It's not about not knowing, it's just plain stupid not to agree to a price!
