Verbal Judo

Hey all, I'm thinking of starting a new project called "Verbal Judo". Basically the concept revolves around the right to free speach and people being able to form opinions on whatever they want. Everything will be moderated (since moderation is totally in this season), but anyone can join and post. I'm just scouting to see if anyone would be interested... it's going to cost me and I won't get money out of it, but I think it would be cool to see where it goes.

If you want to help out in any way leave a message or e-mail me. I'd love to hear from you. Opinions too (oh the irony)!

Moderated in the sense that it will be edited and sources (where applicable) will be checked and double-checked. Anything without fact has to be supported as well. We want intellectual discussion with good background information.

so free speech if you can back it up well enough to get through moderation. how many people do you plan to have involved in the production & moderation of the site? is this going to stay relatively small or will it get big? how long have you had the concept in mind? is this a fleeting thought, or have you discussed this anywhere else? what other types of responses are you getting on this project? how far have you gone into the development of the structure of this project? I'm picking at your 16 year old brain and i'm going to steal your methods muah hah hah.

It sounds horrible but that's exactly it. For production I'm thinking of starting it with a person I'm starting a web design studio with to see how we work together. The moderation will be me for now, but as it grows there were a few people interested. It will be as big as it grows, I mean I'm not going to restrict it. I was debate to be open and free. I've been thinking of this idea for a few days now, but I'm really excited and want to get this off the ground. I'm getting some mixed feeling on the project. I think once it's launched those people who say it'll be like everything else might change their minds and help out. I still do have a good amount of people who will donate their time and ideas though which is really great. The development has been basically written down on scrap sheets of paper in classes. I have how much capital I'll need and ideas for getting money back for it. (Everything will be free, just ads.)

I know. I figured moderation is somewhat key, but we want debate. I'm at ends though because I can't find a good, easy-to-remember domain name that is open for it until 2012. :/

Found a new domain name and about to purchase it (as soon as I find a credit card I can borrow or some place that accepts PayPal). "The Verbal Dojo".com. Pretty swell in my opinion... took long enough to find one that wasn't taken!

Going to probably get it by the end of the week... if anyone is interested in beta testing and stuff leave me a shout here. I had to do some paper work and here's the rough draft of the mission statement so that you may get a better understanding of the idea of the site.

"Verbal means in or of words; Dojo is a place where various forms of martial arts are taught; Therefore, it can be said that verbal dojo is a place where the arts of debate and discourse are practiced. It is a place where people from all forms of backgrounds, sexes, nationalities, and creeds may posit opinions and become a part of intellectual discussion dealing with various categories and topics, moderated to ensure that through debate truth may be revealed, and order kept."

Of course, the bannerhead over this is the American first amendment... that, or one from the Canadian code, but thats as soon as I can fecking find it.

The only moderation is so that it is editted and that the facts that are made can be proven by other resources or whatev.

Ah. Here we are. Okay, the concept of free speech with limits... I know it sounds stupid but its something that happens everywhere (I know) around the world. Although termed differently in different countries, most of the British Empire has what is called the notwithstanding clause the essentially allows freedoms as long as they do not limit other people's freedoms.

Therefore, someone can't come on the site and start promoting hate. Making more sense?

Your site should be called Verbal Love... or Judo Love ... and the tagline: We don't want your hate!
