Hello, fellow colleagues.
Actually I'm part of a group of students here in college making some researches on various aspects of the blogosphere and the net. On December 14th I'm going to present a brief relation to the other participants about the topic I choose to discuss. It puts in relationship the sexual gender and the popularity of bloggers/users and how they affect each other.
If you would like to lend me a hand and to participate in this research, just answer the following question: according to your general experience on the net, do you think that the sexual gender of a user does in some ways affect his/her popularity on the platform (dA, myspace, any other you know) he/she resides? If yes, would you like to tell me how, please?
Thanks for your time.
Let me know. ;)

I think it does. if your reading about a certain topic..say..gaming and a woman is blogging, you almost half expect a nerdy guy to know more then her perhaps u relate to the stereotype.. i know its not right.. but thats the way it works.. and i think its changing ALOT the misconception that cool good looking people aren't skilled web surfers is old.
generally disregarding any specific topics.. personally i don't think it matters at all. to me the sex of the writer is no more relevant to what city they are in.. he only thing that makes me think differently of a blogger is age.
so my answer is YES i think sex matters in general.. but NO not to me personally.

I don't think it matters. As Luis said, you would
expect
a nerdy guy to know more than a female...but doesn't necessarily mean that he would, over any female. I think it's in relation to what the topic is really. But having said that, both genders could excel on topics that the general stereotype does not fit, just depends on the person.
Personally I think this topic is too broad.

I think it does matter, I have seen plenty of art related forum-based sites over the last 7 or 8 years and the ones which seemed to almost have a cult-like following were run by girls. A hot chick who keeps her distance but still kinda flirts in the forum will always have a ton of guys logging in and posting messages.
So that's a yes.

In my experience and daily involvement with the internet.. It can be shocking, the amount of people who feel that the internet, and the people you communicate with are some fictional un-real thing. I think that is the root of this mentality you are researching.
Essentially this type of researching identifies the whole mentality that communicating over the internet be it blogs forums or what have you, would be different than involving The Self in a physical local group.. There is always going to be that man/woman who comes to the meetings and functions because he wants to meet/date/party what have you. Same for that man/women who is a fan of a celebrity or athlete or ANYONE because of their attraction physically or their Sex.
This mentality of a vast fictional place will continue to perpetuate that the internet is not real, and the motivation to this type of desire is ignorance and greed. So its no different than researching sex or a person in a physical setting. And if in fact there is a more popular occurrence of this on the net, then that itself would imply that there are many false people in the world who are motivated by this. If there is a fan base of people who simply involve themselves because they see someone of a certain sex, then that person would be the same way in a real life situation. There are going to be those who are not who they say they are on the internet and you get Face to Face As well.
As a work in progress and a person with a growth mind-set (as opposed to a fixed mind-set) i try to move myself from situations where i see this type of thing happen. (DA Etc..) It is a negative energy and does not promote the growth of braincells.
It has taken Man & Woman a little longer to evolve from Cave men & women to Modern Man & Women and set their animal instincts apart from what is truly beneficial to their growth and to that of Men/Women around them.
I think its interesting. I agree it is a very VERY wide and general topic. I try to not think about it too much because it can be frustrating to me, It's not something personally that motivates me to be interested in someone.
Seminal work. That is what captures my attention. :]

I agree with carly.... because it is valid, not because she is a girl :)

Hi guys, I'm just stopping for a second to thank everyone who participated in this discussion. I just finished to write down my little thesis on the argument, some things changed since I started this research but anyway I'm done now. I'll answer to everyone in the next days, now I'm gonna get some sleep :)
