We all have spur of the moment, or long times of an obsession with something (whether it's food, type of music, or even actions). My latest is my artwork, and design.
I've been working on art, reading about it, and learning about it more than I have in the past 2 years. And I'm loving every minute of it. Everything around me is starting to inspire a million different ideas that I can't keep up with putting them on paper or even digitally.
My main goal at the moment is start getting exposure. Show my art, hell, even sell some.
So anyone have any suggestions, ideas, assumptions or even some contacts on how I could start getting my work out there? Location isn't an issue (as long as I don't have to physically be there, lol)

I don't control my emotions. I just make them digital.

Well i don't have anything to say that is all grand and what not BUT.. i can say this..
I got new ink today and some sweet ass 66lb Premium Matte Photo Paper and after ruining 12 sheets because i didnt realise i shouldve been printing in Illustrator and choosing "HP Premium Photo paper ;b) i have 8 AWESOME Quality Prints I am so excited. After i put them on foam board mattes which i will get at the craft store.. perhaps tomorrow...
I am going to Hustle them to this vendor in Ybor City in (downtown Tampa), and see if he will take them all for $100... 8 - 8x10's for $100 bucks i think thats a fair price... He could certainly get atleast $25 for each of them... I figure he will try and hustle me so my lowest is $75 but i figure.. Why not High Ball the dude. And the prints cost me what .. $50 cents each and ... a couple dollars for matting? I think they will look good next to all of his jewelry, pipes and natural earthy products...
He is trying to get back to Jamaica
and well i got it in good cos Terell and i had a long Prolific conversation with him last night and he hustled us for a hat ;b
I got that guy in my pocket. Ohhh yeah ;]
Hustle Hustle Hustle... thats my advice! :]

The communities are awesome for stuff like networking and getting out there. Seriously, use it to your advantage. Just simply put yourself out there and say to people "hey, by the way I do commission work" or "I'd love to sell you this or that". Eventually word of mouth will get around, and you'll be fine. For myself and web design all it took was knowing a couple of friends, and they told people and I got a good client list. Other than that, just posting work up on places like this helped a lot.

Get as much free exposure as you can, the more websites you're on the better I'd say.
There is also th epaying option and try to get on with an agency that likes your work.
I think no matter what you do, if your work is being noticed, you'll finally get some jobs out of it or sell your art.

What about Exposure & Trust?
Trusting those who have a desire to expose you.
I ran into a promotional guy who saw me carrying around my artwork prints in the city, to sell them. He says he already has some artists set up for shows and said he would like me to come and be involved and set up a booth also. He has given me two dates so far, and the general vicinity but no actual Venue Addresses and Titles... Plus he has said he doesn't use "email" as a preferred contact method. He wants to talk over the phone and "meet up" when My preferred method of contact is email because i have it all organized in one place and can refer back without having a collection of papers with random numbers, names, etc. Which is strange because he called me immediately after i sent the email and left a message. If you could read my email why couldn't you just reply? And then he called 20 minutes later saying he was looking at my art and products online... So if you can be at the computer, Why cant you just email me?
Also, my gut doesn't trust people who sound like they are just pimp talking and want to gloss over important factual dates and names, and just meet up to do all of it. Part of it thinks he's only interested in one thing and its not my art, my art just happens to be a plus.
Jeez this is really difficult.
Then another part of me is thinking this is my anti-social instincts kicking in. THEN another part is i don't have the $$ to be talking on the phone and going out, when i can just email and it is SO much more effective.
I have told him that during the week my preferred method of contact is email, that i have to conserve airtime, and i work 8-5.
I guess if he doesn't like my terms and the way i work, he can just go elsewhere..
Anyone have any input on this type of situation and how it can be dealt with/handled etc?

I guess it was good to email and layout my methods to the promo guy, because now he is emailing me. That was so easy!

Is that legal? I know in Australia it's not...though people do it anyway, but you can get fined.

Nah its not legal in Stockholm/Sweden; formally its stated as "vandalism".. Though no-one has ever had charges pressed for putting up stickers/posters.
Just do it night-time on weekends when all of the city is drunk and you're just fine : )
