I've noticed that there is not alot of constructive criticism on this site.I think politeness is mostly the reason. But criticism is very important part of growing as an artist/designer , learn from your mistakes etc.....I think there should be more ,whats your thoughts on this?

Whenever I give constructive criticism the artist takes offense to it or says he/she already knew what I said and just didn't feel like doing it. I think, personally, that's their defensive mechanism kicking in, so they don't feel like total morons, having to agree with the criticism to protect their...morality and most definitely, their merit as artists.
For example I will say; "interesting, the composition looks very nice, but the shadows lack realism. and also the color scheme is rather off given the nature of the image"
They reply with: "Thanks, but I know the shadows are off. I got lazy. And the colors, well I like them that way. Kinda makes me feel happy inside."
Okay, first of all, why post a piece that is only half-done? Secondly, art, sure, can be for your own liking, but when you are "posting" it you are posting it for others to see, hoping to get a few nice comments out of it that will boast your confidence.
In conclusion, personally, I don't think people can handle criticism on a level that would benefit them. In fact, I think it takes a true artist to be able to say: "Thanks a lot, I wouldn't have seen those if you didn't say anything." Of course without feeling any less of an artist, or better or greater than the artist or person doing the criticism.
I have a hard time taking criticism to be honest, because I feel like I should have known whatever that person said and often I will counter it by saying things like; "i was going to do that, but didn't think it was necessary."

At that point, when people read stuff about their own image, they often just reply "I wanted it to look EXACTLY that way" just to defend themselves.
Haha, funny... Thats the same thing Rubens said when i critiqued him, ;]
