I am so excited. I had to share.
I have been spending the day mounting my work at a newly opened (just last week) locally owned coffee shop (Called DaSilvas). I have rented a 6x6 space for $25 for three months!! I picked up some poster frames and some card stock to make the little contact info cards for each piece.
There will be a grand opening at the end of January as well.. with live music and such to feature the artists displays and to welcome everyone to the new shop.
Its a different experience for me since my work has only had online exposure. While we were mounting the pieces, i had 4 or 5 people come up and compliment me on them, with Gray Matter getting the most attention.
I have about 3 people who will be contacting me for commissions and work with them on an idea they would like to bring to life.
Also.. the beauty shop from the same plaza wants me to display my work in there too. It's all too surreal.
Words can't describe how happy this makes me. :]
I took a picture of the display before i left XD, check it out.

this is wonderful!
happy holidays, btw;-)
i really think this is what you need, and your work complements that;-)
indeed you need to show your work as much in real "places" as possible, while the online world is not bad at all, but personal contacts and social connections cannot be replaced by an online- display only.
but my advice to you is , to be careful!
everyone likes to give commissions and will have you display your work by them - as long as it does not cost very much(or only you)!
my best wishes,
fant

Thanks so much Oliver! I appreciate the advice.
I agree about personal contacts and social connections. It's hard for me working at home every day, and not being social on a daily basis ... to be able to bounce around and be a social butterfly. I tend to become trapped in my world locked into introversion way too much.
Def a good idea to make sure that terms are laid out and agreed upon and that both sides are happy with terms before starting on any commissions.
Happy Holidays to you as well :] and thanks again for your encouragement its really nice to hear such a positive response!

Congrats Meredith!
It's well deserved, and hell, it's exposure. And for $25 for three months, that's pretty damn good.
One thing I am curious about though, is how you pursued it? Did they advertise they were renting wall space? Did you approach them? Just for future references.:)

Actually i look at craigslist.org (for the tampa bay area) daily to see whats being advertised, and they had advertised it under the gigs/creative section.. and i think also the art design section for under jobs. I just try to keep my eyes open. Usually it never works out but surprisingly this one did.
I am still looking forward to their grand opening at the end of this month. they will have live music and featuring the artists, it will be an interesting experience for me X]
